David N. Ruben

David Ruben is the Managing Partner of Ruben & Sjolander, where he also chairs the firm’s Product Liability and Consumer Litigation practice groups. As a veteran of over 50 jury trials in the product liability and consumer litigation areas, Mr. Ruben’s trial experience is extensive. In both state and federal court, Mr. Ruben has successfully defended auto, medical and children’s products manufacturers against claims alleging death and permanent disability. Mr. Ruben has served as national counsel for automobile manufacturers in the complex areas of vehicle dynamics, rollover, supplemental restraints and stability control systems. He also has partnered with his clients’ legal groups to develop pre-litigation strategies, including litigation prevention training, to minimize litigation exposure and damages in the consumer litigation area.
Matters for which Mr. Ruben has represented clients include: 1) wrongful death claims involving manufacturing and design defects, 2) consumer class and representative actions involving claimed violations of state and federal consumer protection statutes, 3) breach of financing and origination agreements between financial institutions 4) litigation of disputed easement, license and mineral rights, 5) litigation of disputes over commercial leases, and 6) litigation of business and partnership disputes.
Mr. Ruben serves as Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court, and was formerly a member of the Century City Bar Association’s Board of Governors. Mr. Ruben has been active in the appellate courts, arguing before the California Courts of Appeal, in the cases of Figiel v. Hyundai Motor America (CA4, D047260), Russell v. General Motors Corporation (CA4, G031611), Lucx Asian Rail Cars v. General Motors Corporation (CA4, E036478), and Andreason v. Hyundai Motor America (CA6, H027579).
